Many wonder what foods are hardest on the heart. Here are few to avoid.
Processed Meats - These foods contain an abundance of sodium, nitrates, and other preservatives. Long term studies have found that the worst type of meats for the heart are processed ones.
Highly Processed Carbohydrates - Foods like white bread, white rice, sugary cereals, bakery items, and candy. These foods contain very little nutrients and fiber. They also cause a spike in blood sugar. More sugar in the blood, the harder it is on the heart.
Soda and Other Sugary Drinks - Absolutely no nutritional value and a definite spike in blood sugar.
Diet Soda - Studies link this sugar free drink to an increase risk in obesity and Type II Diabetes, both of which increase the risk of heart disease.
Margarine and Other Trans Fats (like those food that are deep fried) - Research is very clear on trans fats, they raise a person's risk of heart disease.
Red Meat - High in saturated fat, eating too much red meat can increase the risk of heart disease.
